Rachel McCaw

Rachel is a 19 year old college student who will be volunteering at the front desk. She lives a holistic lifestyle, learning more and more everyday. Her inner spirituality has helped shaped her into the young-adult she is. Rachel may not know what she wants to do with her life right now, but she knows she’s a healer. Her compassion and empathy are her strongest attributes. She will always greet you with open arms and an open mind, ready to help in any way she can! 

Rachel found us through Facebook and felt immediately drawn to us. She knew she had to be apart of Rise in anyway she could. She is so excited to watch Rise grow and hopes to be with us for a while.

Lisa Goodwin, Owner

Lisa had a vision of a nature centered healing place in 2014 while experiencing the beauty and magnificence of Capon Springs Resort in West Virginia.  She envisioned a place of respite and relaxation for all those in need but especially those who did not regularly have access to the innate healing properties of nature.  She sought a way to bring those experiences to busy folks in Reston.  Out of that desire, Rise was born.

Lisa has a passion for learning and has been focused on her own growth and development since getting divorced in 2009.  She often remarks that its out of the greatest difficulty that the greatest growth can occur.   For the past few years, Lisa has been studying the energy system the body and various healing techniques as well as spending a lot of time in the woods with her dog.  She has seen the improvements in her own health and those around her when employing these techniques. So now that her children are all teenagers and self sufficient, she is thrilled to be dedicating to helping others through Rise.   In ancient times, Lisa received a degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of Virginia. Those skills will now be put to good use! 

Marcia Childress, RN Program Director

Teaches yoga and meditation

Offers One on Ones in Healing Touch and Private Yoga

Marcia's first love is holistic health. As a teenager she began studying nutrition, meditation, and art. She shared these interests as an entrepreneur and opened two whole foods restaurants and community art centers, one in Northhampton, MA and later in Oak Ridge TN. She began studying movement and bodywork in 1983, and worked with clients in massage therapy. 

In 1994 she received a Bachelors of Nursing from Georgetown University, DC. She worked in Public Health, specializing in women and family health. 

In 2003 she started a home-practice of yoga. She was certified to teach yoga in 2009. In 2015 she completed a 300 hour Yoga Therapy training through Beloved Yoga in Reston, VA.

In 2012 she completed the 5th and final level of training in Healing Touch. And she has completed trainings in Quantum touch and Reiki. 

Her guiding philosophy is that health and wisdom are natural states of balance. Maintaining or regaining balance is an empowering process of awareness which is unique to every individual. Her passion is to support this process and celebrate all of life.

Liz Alamilla and Giselle Carames

Teaches Wellness and other series of Classes

Giselle is a gifted 13 yrs old, born with a mission to help in the raising of vibration and consciousness of this world.  Her mission will be manifested to help bring in the new and let go the old. She has been teaching classes and doing healing work for 2 years, though she has been orienting herself to her gifts since she was 7. She is striving to work within the authenticity and creation of her being.

- Liz is Giselle’s mom. She has studied nutrition and Healing Touch, and has had to learn an extensive amount rapidly as she witnessed her daughter's abilities emerge. As a result of that learning curve, she has uncovered her mission  to serve as a bridge between the understanding of the mind to the wisdom of the soul that is in pure connection with consciousness and source. In various ways she serves as a spiritual guide to those engaging in their own spiritual evolution.

Ashley Cash

Soundscapes, Sound Healing, and Sound Meditations

Ashley Cash is a singer, sound healer, musician, and artist, who has more than 10 years experience as a private vocal coach and professional performing musician. She holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology from George Mason University where her studies focused on eastern religions and philosophies. Ashley also holds a Certificate of Study from the Sound Healers Association in harmonic overtone singing. As a sound healer, she works to assist clients into a harmonious and balanced state in order to achieve their own healing and to achieve balance in mind, body, and spirit. She has worked with clients on issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, and the emotional processing of living with life threatening illnesses such as cancer. Ashley uses vocal toning, chanting, tuning forks, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, binaural beats, pure tone sound wave frequencies, and shamanic drumming to transmit powerful healing energies.

She and her husband Jim create and perform as the musical group Wovengreen.

Jim Cash

Jim Cash is a visionary musician, award-winning songwriter, poet, sound healer and inspirational speaker.  Jim has more than 10 years of experience as a private music instructor and professional performing musician. Stephanie Courtney

Stephanie Courtney is a listener and observer of things seen and unseen. She is a multi-dimensional energy worker and vibrational healer working with light, color, sound balancing, essential oils and Cymatherapy. Cymatherapy is a form of sound therapy based on the principle that every cell in the body resonates at its own particular sound frequency. Stephany works both in person and remotely. She teaches wellness care for the new crystalline body. She is also an ordained priest in the Sanctuary of the Beloved with the Order of  Melchizedek.

Bennett Crawford

Meditation teacher

Bennett Crawford is a licensed social worker and the founder of Awaken New Possibilities, LLC. He is a facilitator, coach, teacher and writer who specializes in the dynamic art of personal and collective change and transformation. He received additional training in facilitation, meditation, coaching, and counseling and has studied many eastern and western philosophies and practices in the field of change and transformation. Bennett has led seminars and workshops over the years and has counseled and coached many; assisting others on how to discover their calling and how to embody it in the world. Bennett has a passion for making a difference and is driven to collaborate and co-create with others to make the world a better place.

Elizabeth Finnan

Offers Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, and Yoga Therapy.

Elizabeth Finnan is a C-IAYT, E-RYT 200/500 RYT yoga therapist and instructor. She has been practicing yoga for over 25 years and teaching for over 8 years, including group classes, privates, workshops, and teacher trainings.

Elizabeth’s approach to teaching yoga aligns with the lineage of Desikachar and his father, Krishnamacharya, and the Viniyoga tradition which adapts the practice to the person, rather than vice versa, making her classes accessible and enjoyable to every one of every fitness level. One of Elizabeth’s particular passions is teaching to Seniors, inspiring them to reach their full potential. She has studied and taught other forms of physical fitness including pilates, cardio fitness and zumba. Additionally, Elizabeth is a certified Reiki Master and an Advanced Practitioner of Integrated Energy Therapy, both energy healing modalities. She enjoys integrating her energy healing modalities with therapeutic yoga, aromatherapy and elements of Ayurveda for a full mind, body, spirit transformation. Her goal is to help people by giving them the tools they need to access a state of awake living and live into their potential of greater health, ease and wholeness. She is a member of Yoga Alliance, International Association of Yoga Therapist, and AFAA.

Laura Freix

Laura is passionate about helping you reach your highest potential, so you can fully engage in life, and enjoy it! She began her career with GE Aerospace, where she worked as a Senior Math Analyst for twelve years, before resigning to stay home with her four amazing kids. The tools she offers have supported her in creating solid relationships with her children, developing healthy eating habits and good sleep routines, and were especially valuable in helping them manage their stress when they took on the Herculean task of taking a college course load on a high school schedule, while competing in varsity sports.

Now an empty-nester and part of the sandwich generation, her practices have revitalized her marriage, allowed her to support her aging mother with grace, and deepened her existing relationships beyond what she dreamed was possible.

She is a perpetual student and loves to read. Her formal studies include energy healing (primarily Accunect® - most easily understood as acupuncture without the needles.) She also spent the past three years training in HeartIQ™, circle work that focuses on the present moment practice of self-love, relationships, and heart-centered community. She is currently earning hours to be eligible for the formal teacher training for Sheng Zhen, the Qi Gong of unconditional love.

Laura is affectionately referred to as the “soul gardener.” Her gift lies in her ability to provide alternate perspectives that plant the seeds of possibility for her clients. She then cultivates those seeds by providing tools of empowerment. Her passion and authenticity help her clients achieve personal transformation in health, in love and in life. Katherine Greespun

Yoga Teacher

Katherine was hooked on yoga from her first introduction to Pranayama in the early eighties. The discovery of the power of the mind and breath was intriguing. Later, as yoga classes began to be more accessible, Katherine began to study asana as well, and was enthused by the connection of the mind and body, and the spiritual and psychic awareness experienced through the practice of yoga.  She believes that yoga can transform the personality, in addition to transforming the body.

Katherine is a graduate of the Sacred Well Teacher Training Program in 2009.  In this training she learned the Iyengar approach to asana, with his concentration in body alignment. This is a natural fit for Katherine because she also holds a BA in Biology. (Sacred Well has since merged with Blue Nectar, in Falls Church, VA.) Katherine continued to teach and to experience other yogic traditions, and in 2014 started her journey of 500 Hours Advanced Teacher Training at Beloved Yoga, Reston, VA, graduating in spring of 2015.  Katherine has, through her years of teaching, and as a 500 hour advanced teacher, learned to adapt each class in the Viniyoga style.  She is also trained in Therapeutic Yoga.

Katherine approaches each class with the attitude, "We are all teachers and we are all students.

Lisa Jackson RN, CHC, RYT-500, FDN-P, AFMC is a spokesperson and author of Savvy Secrets: Eat, Think & Thrive, Lisa share’s her seven-step’s toward optimal health.

Lisa loves healing the healer. Regardless of the label (i.e. cancer, autoimmune, cardiovascular or gastrointestinal disease, mental/cognitive difficulties, infertility, hyperactivity, insomnia or fatigue) Lisa utilizes functional medicine, self-love therapies, and her seven-step process to uncover hidden stressors. Mary Kearns

Teaches yoga, offers Reiki One on One sessions, and workshops

Mary began her yoga and meditation journey at age 11, after which time she practiced many different styles, on and off until 2004, when she began a regular practice. In 2017, she completed her yoga teacher training.

Called to be a healer before then, Mary earned a PhD in Developmental Psychology, focusing on the bio-psycho-social factors that influence healthy human development throughout the lifespan. She served on the board of trustees of The Montessori School in Wilton, CT for 6 years, and during that time studied the work of Maria Montessori.

In addition, Mary is a Reiki Master, Certified Life Coach, and has also studied herbalism, mandalas for healing, Buddhism, shamanism, EFT, and feng shui. She also holds a BA in Fine Arts.

Mary has a passion for helping people of all ages develop mind, body and spirit wellness, and she does this through workshops, as well as yoga classes designed to nourish all aspects of the individual.

Christina Krueger

Yoga and mindful movement teacher

Christina has been moving since the age of 3 when she started dance. Throughout her whole life she has found a way to find a release and "breathe easier" when she can move her body. She started her journey teaching fitness classes in 2012 and has expanded her repertoire of classes in Zumba, HIIT, Bootcamp, Barre, Cardio Dance, Strength, and Yoga. With many foot injuries through her dancing days, she found true joy and peace taking yoga - the only form of exercise that was kind to her feet, allowed her to be barefoot and really feel the floor. She went through her Yoga Teacher Training in 2017! She quickly realized that yoga wasn't just a form of exercise, but a way for her to dance on her mat and truly calm her fast paced working mind with breath. Though being able to practice headstands, arm balances, and other challenging poses is SO much fun and physically rewarding, learning the process of mind of matter and the breath has been the most rewarding. Christina finds pure joy in helping people get to their "happy mind" and "happy body" through movement and is so excited to work with every soul that steps into the Rise studio! 

Jorge Lugo

Biofield Tuning

 Jorge Lugo believes that we are all amazing, beautiful and powerful and that sometimes we need a little help to lighten the load so that we can feel this way again. He enjoys using the power of sound and vibration to help restore clients to that beautiful state.

Jorge spends his week days exercising the left side of his brain as a web developer. He enjoys finding technical solutions to challenging problems. His interests came into balance when he discovered the work of Jill Mattson and her beautiful, healing music. This led him to study a variety of techniques for producing wellness through sound and vibration. The one that resonated with him the most was biofield tuning through the use of tuning forks.

Jorge Lugo is a Certified Biofield Tuning Practitioner and is certified in Access Bars®. Jorge has also studied energy healing, vocal toning, healing musical intervals and Human BioAcoustics – the analysis of a person’s voice to determine health related issues.

Rita Maximilian

Rita is a yoga alliance registered, 500HR YogaWorks certified teacher with great enthusiasm for sharing her love of yoga with her students, friends and family. Rita was introduced to yoga over fifteen years ago and practicing and teaching became her passion. Rita and her husband owned Quiet Mind Yoga studio in DC for four years where Rita taught and managed the studio including an expansion so more workshops and yoga trainings could be offered. Her teaching style follows the principles of incorporating alignment together with flow and attention to breath. She believes that every yoga path is unique and she strives to help her students to find their own yogic journey. Originally from Hungary, she moved to the US to complete her graduate studies. In her previous professional life Rita worked in the fields of business development and education policy research... and then yoga changed her life and career path. While professional change is not always easy to undertake, her passion for yoga and sharing yoga with others compelled her to start her teaching practice.  As T. K. V. Desikachar says:  "Yoga serves the individual, and does so through inviting transformation rather than by giving information." Rita believes that if you open yourself up to the Universe, have faith in yourself and work full heartedly toward your goals, transformation happens and happiness awaits.

Cheryl McDonnell

Offers Yoga 2 and Yoga Breath Meditation.

 

Cheryl has been practicing yoga for more than 25 years. Several years ago, she completed the 200 and 500-hour yoga teacher training programs, enabling her to share the wonderful benefits of a yoga practice with others. She has been teaching Vinyasa classes regularly since 2014.

A current health researcher and consultant with a Ph.D. in experimental psychology, she has explored in-depth the many barriers and facilitators to physical health and mental well-being. She is an eternal student, and is always seeking to bring the wisdom of the yoga tradition into the physical practice on the mat in a creative way. Along the way, she incorporates the principles from evidence-based research on mind-body integration into her approach. Her goal is to guide each student into a practice that nourishes, builds strength, creates balance, and provides a sense of total well-being.

Brenda Root

Brain Gym teacher

Brenda Root, Ph.D., teacher, researcher, presenter, and consultant has had an extensive career in helping others develop and maximize their innate talents and potential.  She has developed and presented programs in family communication, conflict resolution, stress management, and Patterns of Success for teen and adult at-risk populations.  She received her B.S. in education from James Madison University, her M.S. in sociology from the University of Illinois, and her Ph.D. in sociology from the Pennsylvania State University.  Licensed by the Brain Gym International®/Educational Kinesiology Foundation, Brenda brings over 30 years of teaching experience and 1000 hours of Brain Gym® training to her work with teachers and students in preschool through high school, and parents, OT’s, and PT’s.  Individuals of all ages enjoy and use the Edu-K tools for balanced bodies and sharper brains.  Movement is at the core of Edu-K, giving meaning to the phrase,“We learn to move so we can move to learn.”
